like all types, poison pokémon trainers need to be aware of the dangers of their pokémon. it's not uncommon for a poison trainer to end up hospitalized because their pokémon either accidentally or intentionally poisoned them. over time, however, it's possible for them to build up an immunity to the poison. this is a dangerous route to take, and many trainers just prefer to thoroughly train their pokémon to not attack or poison anything they haven't been ordered to.

archie has a burn scar on part of his right hand. this is from when he was feeding his muk when it was still a grimer, and the little guy was a bit over zealous about grabbing the food and a bit under zealous about how toxic its body was.

post-kyogre, archie developed a fear of thunderstorms. he'd previously enjoyed them, but after everything that had happened, he couldn't help associating them with kyogre's awakening and the amount of guilt and regret he has tied to it.

in the games, pokéballs cannot be re-used. this is just a gameplay mechanic. they can be reused as long as they are not broken and the pokémon that was inside it is no longer tagged by the ball.

for example, a pokémon could be transferred to another type of ball, then the original ball reused.

the X mark on archie's face is actually a marking, but non-permanent. he does it as part of the Aesthetic™ to look threatening and because it mimics sharpedo markings

team aqua had no hiring standards other than "do what the admins say." archie got the grunts to believe in him and his plan all by himself.

he also had such lax working hours and standards because archie wanted to give everyone a chance. team magma gave off the impression that you had to be an intellectual, while archie didn't give a shit. he could give you a warm bed and a hot meal and all you had to do was do what you were told eventually.

unfortunately, after the whole kyogre thing, part of what hit archie so hard when some of the grunts left the team was that he knew quite a few of them had nowhere else to go. this is why he claimed he couldn't call himself a leader anymore; he couldn't even provide the basic amenities to those who sorely needed them

even though he knew what he had done was wrong, archie could still never understand why kyogre had seemed so angry. he had woken it up, given it the blue orb and practically paved the way to the cave of origin.

archie isn't stupid, but this is something he will never understand. kyogre in mythology, while a powerful figure, was always relatively benign, like whales tend to be.

in reality, a lot of kyogre research had just been mixed up with lugia - another ocean legendary - over the centuries. this is also why the image in the cave had such defined claws on the fins.

archie was born and raised in pacifidlog with shelly being a family friend's daughter. they liked to swim the currents together every morning.

seeing as sharpedo can use waterfall, archie has all 8 gym badges. he got them ages ago when he was a kid going on his pokemon journey but never challenged the elite four. he was an outstanding pokémon trainer but wanted to do something about the pollution and pokémon problems he saw during his travels

archie's mom basically raised him alone; not because his dad left but because he worked in kanto as a high level member in devon corp. this is how he met shelly when he was a kid; her dad was in the same situation. archie's mom was incredibly tough but fair and largely influenced his personality.

she had a corsola and a tentacruel, which are currently in archie's pc. she passed on a couple of years ago from an illness. he cares for them but isn't really sure what to do with them because they're both miserable after losing their original trainer.

he would eventually pass them onto shelly, whom they knew from the tight knit community in pacifidlog

archie actually has more water types than on his team; they're just in the pc. he uses his own team for personal reasons (they're the favourites) and the ones in the pc are less for battle and more for recreational reasons. he has a wailord, for example, but it's more of a team aqua communal beast for group fishing/diving day trips.

he did legitimately specialise in water types when he first went on his Pokémon Adventure™ so he has a good variety caught

archie's water breathing power doesn't involve gills, so it's actually pretty awful to experience until he gets used to it. he can taste the water and coughs it all up when he gets back on land. he doesn't actually need to, it would work like the angel blood in eva, but he chooses too because it tastes fucking gross. the boi tried to drown everyone with kyogre now if he wants to spend time underwater he gotta drown himself B)

if the water he's breathing is especially gross or if he's just unlucky, he'll get a chest infection
