[When Archie turns back to Darin, he's already holding two cast iron skillets with a grin.]

[Darin gestures to the large fridge he keeps in the back of the forge.]

I keep it and the cabinets fully stocked in case I ever get stuck here for long periods of time.

I should really look into getting a shower or something installed.

There are a lot of fire and ground types in certain places in Hoenn. Most of them can shoot lava by the time they can walk.

...Why don't you just get an apartment across the road or something? It would probably be cheaper.

How is that even remotely safe? People can just catch and train animals that can do that?

Pokémon aren't animals-- they're sentient. So they know not to just spray it everywhere. That bein' said, all of my team have taken lava to the face and shrugged it off. Sharpedo especially! He's proud of it.

[He counters Archie's declaration with one of fondness as he tosses a bowl his way. He then turns back to the flame of his forge and sets a large metal grate over it to get it ready for some cooking.]

[Archie's last comment though, stuns him in a way that just causes him to stare at Archie in flagrant disbelief. He then realizes that his hands are resting on a metal grate placed over white hot flame and immediately yelps, recoils, and runs to dunk his hands in the barrel of cold water nearby.]

GAH!! WHAT THE HELL?! SEE WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!?

[he waves it off; don't call him out! he's a cool dude with no attachments! he could drop everything and go live in the woods without feeling bad about it!!

archie would be far more alarmed about what just happened a couple of months ago. he just raises his eyebrows.]

[Darin pulls his hands out of the water and shakes them vigorously. There's definitely some burns on his palms, but as he shakes them, they slowly start to heal up.]

[he winces a little at the burns, but sees them closing up. thank god.]

Is it the look that betrays my confusion about why your reaction was so severe? That's the sort of reaction I'd expect if the door was knocked and the visitor was Atropos.

I've been led to believe Atropos is an inside-out demon woman that's constantly vomiting blood, so I'll let you guess that one.

[he shakes his head, going back to sorting out this pan pizza. there's a lot of veg on it.]

[Darin considers this for a moment as he starts clearing off space to set the pizzas down after they cook.]

...Yeah, I'm pretty sure I can take that. I mean, it'll be gross, but I think I'd vastly prefer fighting that than talk about and sorting out my feelings.

If your feelings are making you hurt yourself and lash out, then I think maybe you need to fucking deal with them!

[he chops a jalapeno a little overly hard. rip darin's chopping board or whatever.]
